Sometimes I’ll come home late and have to wake up the fish tanks with room lights. I’ve noticed hundreds of snails that come out after midnight and climb the glass. There are at least two different varieties, one with a white, near see though shell and the other type with a darker green shell and body. When I shoot with the flash, they fall off the glass and start right back from the bottom. What are they climbing for? These guys were turning through the sugar sized Aragamax substrate looking for fish feces and stray tid bits of NLS to munch on.
The snails are definitely a great clean up crew and have done a super job keeping the tank equipment spotless. They also make a nice light fish snack for Tropheus!
